Community Art Project - The Alba Tree
The Alba Tree symbolises new beginnings and hope, inspired by the word "Alba," meaning dawn. Like the first light of day, it represents growth, change, and transformation.
More than a symbol, the Alba Tree is a community-driven public art project that celebrates our connection to nature, creativity, and each other. It will come to life over a two-week period as it is built and displayed in the heart of The Arboretum, Pearl Beach.
A steel structure, enhanced with driftwood, will form the tree’s foundation. It will be brought to life with handcrafted clay leaves—each made by members of the community. These leaves reflect the collective energy of renewal and regeneration, echoing the rhythms of nature itself.
The tree’s transformation will be celebrated at an opening event on National Tree Day—Sunday, July 27. Australia’s largest annual nature care event, National Tree Day, encourages people to reflect on the role of trees in our lives—not just through planting, but by honouring, protecting, and reconnecting with the natural world.
This year, we mark the day through art and togetherness—by celebrating the Alba Tree as a living symbol of hope, conservation, and creative unity.
After the display, all participants will receive:
Their clay leaf returned,
A thank-you card, and
A link to a time-lapse video capturing the Alba Tree’s journey from bare frame to blossoming symbol of community.
